Bats at the Library

Group Activities
(see Activities for downloadable PDF files)

• Discuss the story the bats read at storytime.  Plot out a class version of the story.

•  Build a “story board” –each student draws the title or cover of his or her favorite book or character on the Fold-a-Bat pattern, cuts it out, and the reading bats are displayed on a bulletin board in the hallway (Fold-a-Bat pattern here).

• Color and build paper bat airplanes (airplane pattern here), and see whose can fly the farthest.

•  Encourage young children to “rest their play-exhausted wings” for one whole minute—use the second hand of a clock to demonstrate how long a minute is when you’re not doing anything except for breathing/ relaxing.  Is it hard to do?  Would it get easier with practice?
