Reading
• Why is it tough for the young bats to settle down and read? Do you think the time during which they’re awake is fast or slow to them? Why?
• Why should we read books at all?!? What can you learn from a book which you can’t learn from things you actually do or see?
• Why might a book be better than a TV show or movie about the same subject?
• In what ways can reading be more difficult than watching a TV show or movie?
• How could you make reading easier? (practice, finding a good place to read and focus)
Story Interpretation:
• What do you think is happening in the book the bats read during storytime?
• Why do you think Little Bat (with the yellow floaties) is on a horse? Is he really riding a horse?
• Who are the animals behind him, and why are they chasing him? Why are they holding strange objects? (People have told the author many personal stories about bats in people’s houses, and those objects are all things people have said they used to get rid of the bats)
• Why is Little Bat waving as he sits on the horse on the next page? What do you think he feels? Can you find a similar image later in the book? Why do you think it’s there? |
