Appealing Bat Photos

Did you know that many of the “classic” photos of bats you see in books, showing scary faces and long fangs, were staged?
In a number of cases, the bats depicted have been prodded or provoked to get a dramatic photograph. Below are some photos of bats showing their other side.

If you have an appealing bat photo, send it to me and I’ll post it on this page! There are plenty of good bat photos to be found on the web, but I won’t post any without credit or attribution.

This from Suzanna Hermans of Oblong Books & Music in Rhinebeck, NY: a bat sleeping on their bookstore wall! They thought it might enjoy one of my books when it woke up.
