Featured Classroom Activity:

Turn your classroom ceiling into a bat cave
(relates to art, math and science)

Music Activities

• write a lullaby for a mother or father bat to sing to little bats

• write a song for the old bats to sing around the campfire

• write a rap song or poem for the bats to perform

• write a melody for Bats at the Beach to turn it into a song, and perform it for another class. Notice the shift in meter between the italicized lines and regular lines in the book. How can you use the difference in your melody? Should the italicized lines be louder or quieter than the others?

• how is rhythm used in Bats at the Beach? Tap out the rhythm of the text on a drum or tabletop.
