Bats at the Beach

Featured Classroom Activity:

Turn your classroom ceiling into a bat cave
(relates to art, math and science)

Writing Exercises

• write a description of the scene on the beach with all of the bats. Have students focus on imaginative images, unusual descriptive words. Make sure they consider smells, sounds and touch as well as actions and sights.

• imagine that you are Little Bat (the bat with the yellow floaties/water wings) and write a diary/journal entry about a night at the beach.

• write a letter to someone about a great night at the beach—to a friend, a grandbat.

• write a short tale which bats might tell around the campfire

• write about what Little Bat dreams during the day, after a wonderful night at the beach

• write headlines for Bat News Nightly (a bat television show). Perform news stories as skits?

• write a haiku with bat theme or from a bat’s point of view

• write an acrostic using “Bats at the Beach” as the first letters
